Family Booklets

Your Family Booklets include details of each Second Step® lesson your second-grader will be taught this year, plus fun activity pages and at-home tips to help the whole family support your child’s social-emotional growth.

Unit 1: Overcoming Challenges

Unit 1 includes important SEL lessons about practicing effectively, what mistakes teach us and how to keep going after making a mistake, and how to turn unhelpful thoughts into helpful thoughts to keep ourselves motivated.

Unit 2: Managing Emotions 

Unit 2 helps students understand that people can have different feelings about things, learn to recognize big feelings like pride and disappointment, and shares tools for using positive self-talk when they’re feeling upset.

Unit 3: Empathy and Kindness 

Unit 3 teaches the social-emotional benefits of kindness, helps students recognize and build empathy, and shares tools for using empathy to perform kind acts in a variety of situations.

Unit 4: Solving Problems

Unit 4 teaches important SEL tools for resolving interpersonal conflicts, including not using blame words, and using empathy to think of and choose good solutions to fix problems.
