Family Booklets

Your Family Booklets include details of each Second Step® lesson your kindergartner will be taught this year, plus fun activity pages and at-home tips to help the whole family support your child’s social-emotional growth.

Unit 1: Overcoming Challenges

Unit 1 includes important SEL lessons about paying attention, understanding that mistakes are okay, and how practicing and trying hard are the way we get better at things.

Unit 2: Managing Emotions 

Unit 2 helps students recognize big feelings like happiness, sadness, and anger, and teaches tools for helping themselves feel calmer when they’re overwhelmed.

Unit 3: Empathy and Kindness

Unit 3 teaches the social-emotional benefits of kindness, helps students get better at recognizing kind acts, and shares simple ways that kids can show kindness to others.

Unit 4: Solving Problems

Unit 4 teaches important SEL tools for resolving interpersonal conflicts, including feeling calmer, not using blame words, apologizing, and  taking turns and sharing.
